a Reflects patient and treatment characteristics of ART cycles performed in 2005 using fresh nondonor eggs or embryos.
b When fewer than 20 cycles are reported in an age category, rates are shown as a fraction and confidence intervals are not given. Calculating percentages from fractions may be misleading and is not encouraged.
c A multiple-infant birth is counted as one live birth.
d Clinic-specific outcome rates are unreliable for women older than 42 undergoing ART cycles using fresh or frozen embryos with nondonor eggs. Readers are urged to review national outcomes for these age groups.
e All ages (including ages >42) are reported together because previous data show that patient age does not materially affect success with donor eggs.

Notes:

1. One thing to note about the “amount financed” part is that, in theory, you should have to pay off Cycle 1 before starting Cycle 2.

2. Their donor plans include all the donor fees, unlike many other sites I’ve seen.

3. As with almost all sites, none of the costs include medications.

Intro to site

If you found this, it’s likely because you googled something about IVF costs. As medical tourism becomes more common, I think relying on going to the closest facility may not make much sense. For example, I moved from NY to HI. The costs in NY are less than $9000 at my clinic, and in HI, it’s $15,000. So I can commute to NY and take care of it all, and still save money. There is another site that discusses international costs (www.ivfcost.net), but I know of no other resource that has consolidated US clinic data.

So, since I have been through a few cycles of IVF, and have done much research, spending countless hours online and on the phone trying to figure out the data I need from each clinic (volume, success, services, costs). I have some data, and am continually gathering more. I have seen many excellent sites dealing with fertility, but I have never seen the information I wanted all in one spot. So I was hoping that I could get enough women who are going through the process to contribute their impressions of clinics, costs they incurred, etc. There are 422 clinics in the US, so I’m going to be working into this gradually. First is going to be the clinic I worked with, that I have mixed feelings about. From there, I’ll work from highest volume down. But, ladies and gents, if you could post what your experiences were when we get to the clinic you used, you can greatly help those in need of services down the line.

This is a new project for me, so it may be a little thin to start with. For now, here is a link to the CDC Success Data. It is an Excel spreadsheet, fully sortable, with volume and success rates. I will add in more data over time, of course… for now, it’s just the bare bones reported success rates.

http://spreadsheets.google.com/ccc?key=p-cbcJTYk2Kagj_7hotbabA

My intent is to separate the clinics by couple of parameters: by state and volume. So there will be categories for each state, and additional categories for very high volume (>735 procedures a year), high volume (> 365), average volume (> 200). There is a significant correlation of volume to success for older patients, and the older you are, the higher the correlation. So if you’re >40, look for a high volume clinic, if you’re less than 35, don’t worry about it, just go by location (IMHO). Even the 35-37 crowd can probably largely ignore volume… apparently there is more skill to getting useful eggs out of us geezers 🙂

Please comment madly… I would really like to make this a useful resource for those looking for information in one place, and I only know what I would have wanted, not what everyone wants to see.
